Currently Loving

High Design Bathrooms.

Hello all ye few but faithful...

As I was getting ready this morning I realized how much I hate my drab little bathroom with it having no windows, vinyl "wood" floors, honey oak stained cabinetry and the piece de resistance the flimsy beige tile. With that said I am having total bathroom envy today.

There is just something about a double mirrored vanity that can drive a man crazy, the way the antique mirror delicately hangs over the builder grade non beveled mirror, add to that my favorite terra correra, honed, bull nosed marble countertop with an under-mount square sink..HELLO...please come home with me.

Again with me and the mirrors I know, but I just love the sophisticated whimsy of this otherwise completely traditional bathroom having this huge mirror mounted on the entire wall behind the vanity, maybe it has something to do with my theory that more is more, but I loves it.

I love mosaics. This bathrooms just screams Steven Alley for some reason...besides the toothbrushes on the counter, I would never be caught dead with my toothbrush out. I am assuming this is from someone's powder room, or better yet will assume it's in my powder room, could you imagine getting to look at that every-time you sat down to use the lou? Gosh I would be so excited every time mother nature called.

Ok, wile this bathroom may not be my exact style there is something to appreciate here, and that is the sheer eleganza of this bathroom, full marble floors, polished gold hardware, wainscoting, and the slightest accent of dusty rose on the floor to ceiling draperies.

So, do tell what is your bathroom fantasy...and please keep it PG!

'Till next time.

Steven's 2012

It’s 2012 can you believe it. 2011 was absolutely an amazing year for me. It all started with a big big move all the way across the country from Los Angeles to Atlanta, getting a bomb diggity job at Napa Home & Garden, traveled the country, met amazing new people and have been succeeding every day since. As I start the new year I make some new resolutions and some that I have made for years past, my biggest resolution is to stop being so obsessive compulsive about things ( As I adjust the volume on my TV to be a an even level.) I look forward to the struggle of trying the weight loss battle and everything that comes a long with that, and perhaps the most struggling of all will be my resolution to save money, but I am going to try my hardest. Some good news my trip to Toronto in late January has been cancelled, and let me tell you that this is good news because this (meaning me) does not do snow ha.

As I pass my one year anniversary on my big move to Atlanta, look back on it with pleasure but wonder about my future here, especially as I return from my trip from Dallas, which happens to be my favorite place on earth, I’m thinking that this needs to move to Dallas, the big D, some time in the future. It just seems to feel right to me, uptown, down town Dallas, Highland Park, it all just seems to feel like home to me.

I start the official new year for Steven tomorrow, wish me luck and give me inspiration its going to be a great year.

The "Burke" "Winfrey" Debacle for Halloween 2011.

It is the question that has plagued mankind since the dawn of the universe; what to be for Halloween.  While Halloween has not always been that much of a big deal for me in the past, in recent years it has taken on a whole new meaning for me. In the past I have been my alter ego Shanasty Delicious Starkisha, and who could forget the unstoppable duo of Venus and Serena Williams.

But this year it is time to pay tribute to my past and what has made me who I am today. Delta Burke and Oprah Winfrey have played huge roles in the life of one Mr. Steven Alley, growing up the highlight of my morning was watching old Designing Women episodes with my mom on Lifetime, all the sassy jokes and pre-menopausal humor was just more that I could stand as an 8 year old boy.

However, there was always the ever present impression of Oprah Winfrey in my life, while most boys my age ran home after school to play their video games or out in the yard with a ball (EW) I rushed home to catch that days episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which not only taught me how to be a well rounded cultured adult, but also that it is okay to wear neon colored eye shadow even after it has gone out of style and who does not love that?

I have been bouncing these ideas back and forth in my head since Labor Day Oprah or Delta and I just can not decide, the good news is that both would require the use of my favorite thing in the world, SHOULDER PADS! For both ladies I would like to pay tribute to my youth and do Delta Burke circa 1987 or Oprah Winfrey circa 1994, but my fait I am afraid lies in your hands, you must help me decide.

Please post your comments below and I look forward to what Halloween will hold in store for me, and I promise a full roll of photos to share with you.

XOXO

The First of Many!

People have always told me that I should be an actor or a comedian because all I seem to do is make them laugh. After much thought and consideration I decided against becoming a famous actor or comedian, in part because I looked in the mirror and saw a face that was not made for the TV. I am only joking, but seriously I have decided to take the time and record things that happen in my life, work and travel and see how it goes.
I have three passions in life; interior design, food and The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Ha I am only joking on that third one, but any way here it goes I’ll give it a try and see what kinds of reactions that I can get. I look forward to your support.
XOXO
